Tempe Wedding Photography Holy Spirit Church and Raven Golf Club
My brother Shaun and I had the honor of photographing Michelle and Dallas’s wedding on May 6, 2017.
Shaun has known Dallas since elementary school and has lived in the same neighborhood as our family. They both graduated from Marco de Niza High School, in Tempe.
The wedding itself took place at Holy Spirit Church, in Tempe, followed by the reception at The Raven Golf Club.
Many weddings that I have photographed typically have their ceremony and reception at the same outdoor location but I was pleased to have the opportunity to photograph for this wedding at 2 different locations.
A big weather front moved in that morning, causing what turned out to be a very windy day–with wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour.
I had been following the weather reports the week of the wedding, so I knew if we wanted to get some excellent outdoor photographs at this beautiful location, I would need to pull from my photographic bag of tricks.
I visited The Raven Golf Club the day before because I wanted to get a better idea of my options. I found a secluded spot next to the reception that was somewhat sheltered from the wind and sun–where Shaun and I could photograph the bride, groom and the bridal party.
On the morning of the wedding we began photographing with the bride and bridesmaids getting ready in the changing room of the church. We then brought the girls outside for some quick portraits, while keeping them sheltered from the wind.
The ceremony took place inside the beautiful church. After the ceremony was finished, we gathered the family and began taking portraits at the altar.
When family portraits were all finished at the church, we headed to the Raven Golf Club for Cocktail hour and the reception.
During the cocktail hour, we photographed the bridal party portraits–as well as the groom and all of the groomsmen.
I am so glad I had visited the Raven the day before because I was able to utilize those plans to deal with the wind and sun.
The bridal party was so fun, everyone was ready to party after the wedding!
During the portraits, we did some fun shots where everyone in the bridal party put on aviator sun glasses.
We then moved into the reception for their grand entrance and their first dance.
Just before sunset Shaun and I took them out on the golf course for some great bride and groom portraits using the backdrop of this beautiful golf club.
The wind was not such a big concern at that point because it was just the bride and groom and we used the wind to our advantage on some of the images.
One image comes to mind is the one with the bride and groom with her vail blowing out behind her.
We then finished up the night with some more dancing, cake cutting, bouquet and the garter toss.
I was very honored that they hired us to photograph their wedding.
We also had the opportunity to work with one of the best wedding coordinators, in Sarah Landon with SL Events.
She made everything flow smoothly which allowed us to concentrate on what we do best. Thank you Sarah!
